Dr. Scott Poland is a Professor at the College of Psychology and the Co-Director of the Suicide and Violence Prevention Office at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
He an internationally recognized expert on youth suicide, school crisis and prevention and has authored or co-authored five books on these subjects. He previously directed psychological services for a large Texas school system for 24 years and is a past President of the National Association of School Psychologists and a past Prevention Division Director of American Association of Suicidology. He is very dedicated to prevention and has testified about the mental health needs of children before the U.S. Congress on four occasions. He is a founding member of the National Emergency Assistance Team and has personally assisted school communities after 16 school shootings and numerous suicide clusters. He is the co-author with his partner who is a retired school principal of the Suicide Safer School Plan for Texas, the Crisis Action School Toolkit on Suicide for Montana and the New Jersey School Guide to Prevent Suicide. He previously was selected as the outstanding psychologist in Texas and was a recipient of the Houston Wage Peace Award and the Helping Parkland Heal Award.
Dr. Carly W. Wilbur is a pediatrician in Beachwood, Ohio and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and has been in practice between 11-20 years. We are thrilled to add Dr. Wilbur to the psi team as our new Medical Director.
As a psychologist with psi, Dr. Julian Dooley conducts school evaluations as well as develops and implements school-based intervention and prevention programs. Prior to locating to the U.S., he lived in Perth, Australia, and was the Associate Director at the Sellenger Centre for Research in Law, Justice and Social Change and Head of the Social Wellbeing and Technology (SWaT) at Edith Cowan University. He completed his PhD in psychology at the University of Melbourne where he investigated the impact of traumatic brain injury on aggressive and violent behaviors.
Dr. Dooley has won several awards including the Edith Cowan University Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research by an Early Career Researcher. He has been awarded more than $3 million in research funds and his research has been published in a variety of high-impact scientific journals. He was part of a team that was recently awarded a patent for a novel approach to measuring social cognitive abilities. Dr. Dooley authored a comprehensive review of cyber-safety risks for the Australian Government, which informed the Government’s cyber-safety plan, and he was called to testify at a Parliamentary Hearing on the topic of safe technology use.
Dr. Dooley has more than 70 invited and peer-reviewed lectures and has been a member of numerous national and international boards and committees including the Advisory Council of the National Centre Against Bullying and the National Coalition on Children’s Resilience and Mental Health.
Stephanie York serves as vice president at Hennes Communications. She brings 25 years of legal, governmental, hospital, political, digital media and public relations experience to the agency. York heads up the firm’s satellite office, in the heart of downtown Akron, Ohio.
She specializes in crisis communications, crisis management, litigation communications, issues management, media relations and digital media. She can quickly evaluate developing issues and produce effective strategic messages to aid clients coping with reputation management concerns, escalating events and breaking crises.
Dr. King was born and raised in Northeast Ohio and has spent over twenty-five years in the people helping profession. He has completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Master of Arts degree in Clinical Counseling. He then passed his state licensure examination to become a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor. Tim received an earned Doctorate (Ph.D. in Clinical counseling) from Liberty University in 2014. Tim also has extensive training in Marriage and Family, Conflict Resolution, Addictions, Parenting, Life Coaching and Grief issues. He has completed graduate coursework from the University of Akron as well as Kent State University.
Tim is the founder of Family Care Counseling Center and Coaching for Living. He has hosted live call-in radio shows and had appeared on several radio and local television programs. He has been a guest lecturer at colleges and universities and has spoken to audiences of thousands throughout the United States and abroad. Tim has consulted to numerous school systems and businesses.
Tim has a passion to see individuals, families, organizations and businesses grow to reach their full potential by living emotionally, physically, spiritually and relationally healthy lives.
Stephen Gray Wallace has broad experience as a school psychologist and adolescent/family counselor. He is president and director of the Center for Adolescent Research and Education (CARE), a former associate research professor at Susquehanna University, and the past national chairman and chief executive officer s at SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions/Students Against Driving Drunk). Stephen also works with the American Camp Association (ACA) as a feature magazine writer, media spokesperson and faculty member at its e-Institute for Professional Development.
Stephanie is currently a Distinguished McKnight University Professor at the Institute of Child Development, University of Minnesota. Prior to this, she was Assistant-to-Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology, University of Washington (1998-2007).
Dr. Carlson is a developmental psychologist and internationally recognized leader in the measurement of executive function in preschool children. She conducts research on ways to promote the healthy development of EF in children and their caregivers. Her work has received funding from federal agencies and non-profit foundations, including the National Institutes of Health, Institute of Education Sciences, John Templeton Foundation, and the Character Lab. Dr. Carlson’s research is highly cited and has been featured in several media outlets, including Time, Newsweek, New York Times Magazine, The Times (UK), Forbes, Wall Street Journal, and National Public Radio.
A summa cum laude graduate of the Honors College at Kent State University, Nancy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She went on to teach History and English for 32 years in the Lakewood City Schools. In 2005, she was honored to receive both the Lakewood, and Ohio PTA District 11 “Teacher of the Year” Awards.
Nancy has served on the St. Clair Superior Development Board, was elected a Board Officer for the East Cleveland Anti-Drug Coalition, and was as a member the Cleveland Community Relations Citizen Board.
Nancy’s teaching career led to an interest in substance abuse prevention. In the summer of 2008, she led the formation of Drug Awareness and Prevention Inc. (DAP), with a mission to lessen the demand for illicit drugs. DAP is 501(c) (3) nonprofit and an Ohio-certified Prevention Agency.
Nancy is licensed as an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist. She was honored by the U.S. Department of Justice, DEA division for “Outstanding Contributions in the field of Drug Law Enforcement,” pertaining to a biannual drug take back program. She is also a member of the Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force.
As DAP’s Executive Director, she develops Classroom-based Substance Abuse Prevention Programs for School Children, Drug-Free Workplace Training for businesses, and Community Awareness Programs in the community.
