Begin your day by coordinating with school staff to understand the day’s schedule and specific interpretation needs for various interactions and events.
Provide accurate and sensitive interpretation services during meetings, presentations, and classroom activities, facilitating clear and effective communication.
Assist in the interpretation of written communications for students and parents, helping them understand school policies, homework assignments, and notices.
Act as a cultural mediator when necessary, helping to explain cultural nuances and ensure that all parties understand the context of communications.
Provide feedback to school staff on potential language or cultural barriers encountered, suggesting improvements for future interactions.
Perform both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation during live events, maintaining a high level of accuracy and linguistic integrity.
Work closely with teachers and students in classroom settings to facilitate understanding and participation for non-English speakers.
Enhance communication between the school and the wider community, ensuring that language barriers do not hinder involvement or access to information.
Assist in maintaining records of interpreted sessions and ensure compliance with confidentiality and ethical standards of practice.
Stay abreast of best practices in interpretation and participate in ongoing training to enhance skills and knowledge.
Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Communication, or a related field; certification in interpretation strongly preferred.
Fluency in English and at least one other language, with proven interpretation skills.
Prior experience in interpretation, ideally in educational settings or community services.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and cultural sensitivity.
High ethical standards, with a commitment to confidentiality and accuracy in all communications.
