PSI is now offering bilingual services to those students who are truly non-English speaking. Typically, most students have a basic knowledge of English, but some have little to none at all.
To understand what is spoken in the classroom, support services beyond inclusion in PSI’s English Language Learner (ELL) or English as a Second Language (ESL) programs is crucial. One of PSI’s bilingual teachers, Veronica Szabo, works with non-English speaking students by translating curriculum in core subject areas so that academic achievement can be mastered. This “bridge” to English has helped the students feel less overwhelmed and more focused on their homework, daily assignments, and tests.
